Daniel 3:17b – “…Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us”
There are a lot of troubles and tribulations in the world today. There is no assurance that they would ever cease now, for we are in the end time. The coming of the Lord is very close. The devil and his agents would continue to trouble believers in the Lord because of his plan to bring them to his fold. As we have in the encounter of the three Hebrews against Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel Chapter three, so is the prince of this world devising every means possible to make the believers fall away from Grace. He would want us to bow down to his idols. These often manifest in what the Apostle John described as “the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life” (1John 2:16). They are always very tempting yet ultimately destructive. When they confront you as a Christian you should know that your faith is being tested, and this is an attempt to draw you from God, and make you become hater of God.
The test of faith of the three Hebrews, Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego in Babylon is the proof of God’s ability to deliver His children from whatsoever situation they might encounter in the journey of life. Though, the three Hebrews were to face a great danger in the defense of their faith in God, they were so sure that God is able to deliver them. They said, ‘Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery finance, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O King’ (Daniel 3:16-17).
The outcome of this event in Babylon actually prove to the people that God is a living God, who has the capacity and ability to deliver His children from whatsoever they might encounter.
Please note these points about the faith of these three Hebrews Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego:
• They trust in the Lord, and know whom they serve.
• They have faith in his ability to deliver from evil machinations and power.
• They are ready to contend for their faith even in difficult situation.
• They are not ready to compromise their faith, no matter the consequences.
• They know that in the journey of their faith God has the final say.
• They have a better and great hope that is beyond the temporary world.
• They are ready to forgo their status, position and pleasure of this world for
their faith’s sake.
• They have a faith that is not afraid of anguish, persecution, suffering and death.
• They fear the Lord God above the earthly king.
• They know the power of their God to deliver and save them.
Summarily, we can see that the confidence of these men is derived from their identification of Whom God is, and His power; their understanding of God in person; their commitment to serving Him rather than the devil and their assurance of God’s ability to deliver those who diligently seek and fear Him.
1. Identification of our God.
a) Our God has His personality. He is God the Creator and Lord. He creates and owns what He created. You may create something and sell it out. He creates us and owns us. He is the living God. The God who opens and no one shut. He is God, the I Am who changes not. He is God that is self-existent, self-sufficient and self-provident. God who has no equal in power, and in authority, in heaven and earth. God all powerful, all seeing, all knowing, God is everywhere. He is the unchanging God in the changing world. He is God in the past, in the present and in the future. He is God today, He is God in the now, He is God who stands with His people, having all power and ability to deliver and save. And He will deliver in the course of the year whatever may be the situation, the conflict, the antagonism in the year, He will deliver.
b) All those who need His salvation must identify themselves with Him. He must be trusted as God who only can deliver.
2. Personalizing our God.
You must take possession of this God. As the Hebrews identified God as our God, so must we. As a church He is our God. This is our God, we have waited for Him, and He will deliver us. Each person must have this God. Personally each one must believe, trust and know Him. All believers must say, He is our God: As a Church, He is our God. As an individual we must claim Him, profess Him and possess God. It is not enough to see Him as God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He may be the God for these people we must know Him as our God too. It is important to know Him as my God. The Psalmist recorded in Psalm 91:2c. “My God in whom will I trust”. Daniel when as a person was in lion’s den said, My God has sent his angel. (Dan. 6:22). He is a God we must personalize in the course of the year.
3. Serving our God
After identifying the God, personalizing the God, we must serve Him. God must be acknowledged, worshipped, served, obeyed and reverenced. He must be served privately and publicly. He must be served day and night. He alone should be served and worshipped as God. He must be praised, exalted, glorified and adored. He must be served in humility. He must be served sincerely with all our hearts, be served n holiness, in trembling and fear. He must be served with all our substance, all that we have. Exodus 23:25 says: And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. Deliverance is of the Lord in the year.
4. Deliverance by our God
Deliverance is of God and God alone has the power to deliver His people from persecution, trials, problems and dangers in the year. He will deliver from six and seven troubles in the year, from famine, dangers, sickness, suffering, poverty, failure, disappointments, fiery furnace and all implications, wastes, ruins and destructions in the year. (Job 5:19)
This is the year of God’s deliverance; His people shall witness a great divine intervention and deliverance in the year. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from all evils of the year. And He indeed delivered by manifesting Himself, that even the heathen king testified to the presence of the son of God in the fiery furnace with the three men.
“Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
“He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.(Dan 3:24-25KJV)
God has unlimited power to deliver from powers of darkness and of the devil. He is also able to deliver whosoever believes in Him from all forms of evil that fly both in the day and night time. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence (Psalm 91:3). There is no power on earth that can deliver as like the power of God. God’s deliverance is total and complete; He will not deliver you half way and leave the rest undelivered, No. He will complete the deliverance no matter the circumstance or evil encounter or attack.
Even, space or distance cannot be a limitation when it comes to God exercising His power of deliverance of His people. Whether you are in the North, God is able to deliver you; whether, you are in the South, He is more than able to deliver you from whatsoever you might encounter; whether you are in the East or the West, the Lord who is mightier than the mightiest has capacity to deliver you from those contending against his sovereignty. Even if you are in the far end of the continent or the world, God’s deliverance can reach you. Therefore God is not only able to deliver in a location, space or distance can never be a limitation or barrier to His deliverance power.
For you to experience His deliverance power, you have to identify Him as God, who is able to deliver, personalize Him, serve Him and claim your deliverance in Him. But note the Lord will only rise up to deliver His own. You are either of God, or of the devil. And if you are of this world you cannot be of God, but of the devil. To enjoy God’s deliverance promised His children, you have to come unto Him through Jesus Christ. He has been given unto man as the Saviour from sin, from death and from the devil. Come unto Jesus today. He will deliver you.
